This is the Helix Midnight Luxe's specific mission. 13.5″ luxe profile, quilted memory foam pillow-top, coils zoned to firm at hips and soften at shoulders, tuned for side sleepers in the 130-230 lb range. Sleep Foundation names it their best mattress overall.
Casper Original Hybrid is also solid for side sleepers (zoned coils, medium feel, 11″) but the pillow-top is shallower. Side sleepers with shoulder pressure issues: Helix.
This flips once you look at what's actually on top of each bed. Helix Midnight Luxe ships with a GlacioTex cooling cover — a dedicated cooling surface, not just a breathable knit — over the memory-foam pillow-top. Casper's AirScape is perforated foam that vents heat passively, which beats a solid memory-foam slab but is not an active answer.
Casper's own listing settles it: "cooling is average — hot sleepers look elsewhere" is the first drawback on its page. Helix is temperature-neutral rather than cold, and the quilted foam pillow-top that delivers the pressure relief is still the layer that holds the most heat, so don't read this as a large gap.
We haven't run thermal testing on either bed and won't quote a temperature difference. If you sleep hot and need side-sleeper pressure relief, Helix is the better of the two — but a grid-topped or actively cooled bed is a different conversation.
Casper's perimeter coils are firmer than Helix's, which matters for two use cases: (1) sitting on the edge to tie shoes without feeling like you'll roll off, and (2) making full use of the mattress width (some memory foam beds feel like you'll fall off the sides).
Helix has decent edge support but Casper's is notably better. Couples who use every inch of the mattress: Casper wins here.

The bigger difference is that only one of these is still made. Casper has discontinued the Original Hybrid: casper.com now redirects it to the Casper Dream Hybrid, and GoodBed lists the Original among Casper's discontinued models. That's worth more than the $379 price gap for most buyers. A 10-year warranty on a discontinued line has no current-production unit to exchange into, and if the bed doesn't suit you there's no Casper-direct replacement — you'd be moving to the Dream Hybrid, which is a different mattress at a different height and price.
