Sleep tracking accuracy
TieBoth devices carry peer-reviewed polysomnography validation — Oura in Chee et al. (2021, *Nature and Science of Sleep*) and Whoop in Miller et al., 2020, *Journal of Sports Sciences*. Neither study is a head-to-head against the other, and we have not run one, so treat these as two separately-validated devices rather than a ranked pair. The differences buyers report on Reddit come from placement (finger vs wrist) and skin-tone effects on optical sensors — not the underlying algorithms.
Oura pulls ahead on total sleep duration because it detects micro-wakes better via the finger's cleaner pulse signal. Whoop pulls ahead on wake events during REM because its accelerometer catches movement Oura misses. In practice, both give you the same nightly narrative.
