Sleep tracking accuracy
Winner: Fitbit ChargeBoth track real sleep stages — Apple reports Core / REM / Deep, Fitbit reports light / deep / REM. Neither is guessing from motion alone; both combine optical heart rate with accelerometer data. On the spec sheets this looks like a wash.
In our scoring the Charge 6 edges ahead, 8/10 to Apple's 7/10 on sleep tracking. Apple's own review notes that its sleep staging trails Oura and Whoop in published studies, and Apple's methodology leans on the Quantified Scientist PSG comparisons for the Series 10 rather than a lab result of our own. Fitbit has been building wrist-based staging longer and it shows in the consistency of the nightly output.
The honest read: the gap is small and neither device replaces a sleep study. If accuracy is the only thing you care about, a ring beats both. If you're choosing between these two specifically, the Charge 6 gives you comparable staging without the $250 premium.
